CHURCH HISTORY

In the year of 1963 the Lord put in on the heart of the late Reverend Oliver Young, Sr. to begin a mission in the City of Buffalo. After an extensive search for several months God revealed the location where Good Samaritan Church Of God In Christ would be birthed. The first service was held at 401 East Ferry Street. Reverend Young started having services with his wife by his side, their beautiful children and four remaining member’s of Elder Moore’s previous congregation which ceased as a result of his declining health.

Within a few months the Lord greatly blessed and souls were added to the ministry. Mrs. Martha Royster was the fist convert of the newly organized Good Samaritan C.O.G.I.C

During the first two years the church flourished and the membership nearly doubled. He immediately began a Building Fund, for he had a vision even at that early time, that one day the Lord would bless the congregation to purchase a building for God. In March 1968 the Church was forced find quarters elsewhere because the building occupied at that time was being sold. The congregation moved to 182 Walnut Street and rented a church there.

Reverend Glenwood H. Young was appointed Pastor of the Good Samaritan C.O.G.I.C in January of 1969 by Bishop W.G Shipman, succeeding his father, the Reverend Oliver Young, sr. For nearly a year the church experienced many difficulties, but they did not give up on the vision of the church. Through prayer, fasting and countless sacrifices the Lord brought the church out victoriously.  On December 18, 1969 the first service was held in the newly purchased edifice at 265 Leroy Street. The vision of Elder Oliver Young Sr. had been completed and the church continued to grow and thrive.

For nearly 35 years Good Samaritan C.O.G.I.C was a staple in the community on Leroy Street. As the church continued to grow the vision continued to evolve. On November 19, 2004 the church relocated and we purchased our new home where we currently reside 261 Cleveland Drive. Cheektowaga N.Y.
